This resource is a poetry comprehension activity for year 2, based around a poem called ‘Summer Postcards.’ The poem tells the story of one boy’s wild adventures on the run with an elephant over the summer holidays, so would make a perfect activity before or after a long break. The resource includes 3 differentiated levels of booklet, which use different layouts and slightly altered content and questions to make them suitable for a whole range of abilities. The middle ability booklet is laid out in a similar way to the KS1 SATs booklets, with four pages of pictures and short verses to read and 3-4 questions per page. This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 4-7. The plans are very detailed (9 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year. Lesson 1 contains a brief overview of Judaism and Purim. Lesson 2 focuses on the story of brave Queen Esther. Lesson 3 teaches the children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim. Each lesson starts with a carpet session. The children then split into five groups for activities. These include drawing, storytelling, dressing up and crafts. Across the three lessons the children have the opportunity to do all of the activities. The plans could be combined into one lesson with the children only doing one or two activities. There are three differentiated levels of objectives. There is an optional 18 slide PowerPoint to accompany the lessons which tells the story of Queen Esther and how Jewish people celebrate Purim. (This is non-editable.
